Day 19 - Going to Wynwood

After a good night sleep I got up and took a shower and had some breakfast. My room had also an own fridge which was very convenient. Around 9.30 am I entered the house just running into the other visitors that were luckily already up. The French professor offered to take us all into town and show us some of the sights Downtown Miami had to offer which was really nice. The Austrian guy couldn’t come along with us as he had to go to the airport in order to catch his flight. The Italian girl and I however joined the French professor and soon we were off to the nearest bus stop on 27 NW. We were lucky and had not to wait long for bus 27 to arrive. It was a short ride down to the Metrorail station where we got day passes from the vending machine. We then entered the metro and took the green line towards downtown. We got first some coffee in downtown before taking the metro again in order to get closer to the art district Wynwood. Still we had to walk a few blocks before we arrived in Wynwood. The interesting thing about Wynwood is the graffiti that one can find on almost every building. The graffiti is however real artistic work and not just some mutilation. We had some tacos for lunch and the French professor stayed then in a coffee place nearby in order to do some work while the Italian girl and I went to discover the area. Unfortunately we didn’t get very far when it started to rain. We were lucky as we just got under a roof in time. We were trapped under the roof for almost two hours. The rain was strong and very enduring. However, we had so many interesting stories to share about our trips that the time just flew. The Italian girl was also on a U.S. round trip mainly along the East Coast. Once the rain had finally slowed down a bit we walked back to the café where we reunited with the French professor. After having some warm drinks we left the café. The rain hadn’t completely stopped so we decided to visit some of the art galleries that were conveniently located along the street. After visiting five galleries the rain had almost stopped. We decided to continue our downtown tour and headed west towards Midtown Miami. Unfortunately the Italian girl had to go back as she was leaving the same night. While the French professor still had some work to do I went on my own to discover Midtown Miami a bit. There wasn’t that much to see and I felt tired so I returned to the coffee place in which the French professor had settled for work. I had some snacks while waiting for him to finish his work. Around 8 pm we started to head back to our Air B’n’B. We first had to walk a few blocks until we reached the Metrorail. Using the metro and bus 27 we arrived back at the house around 9.30 pm. Unfortunately metro and buses were not running that frequently during the weekends so we had to wait quite some time for those transportation modes to arrive. It was about time for me to say goodbye to everyone as I had a very early departure the next morning. Also my second Air B’n’B had been a really great experience. I packed by bags ready before I went to sleep.
